Hi I’m Scotty, amateurblogger, former backpacker, passionate foodie and expert traveler.
My adventures began in the mid-’90s when I summoned the courage and the money to embark on my first backpacking trip, solo, to Europe. That experience filled me with dreams to see the world and that journey continues to this day, though my style is more flashpacking than backpacking in recent years
Over 20 years of backpacking adventures saw me visit remarkable spots from Argentina to Zambia and countless places in between, all while holding down a job and paying down a mortgage, just like you.
The way we travel is changing
Technology has shaken up the independent travel market, making it more accessible to everyone. Hopefully my blog can go some small way to open that world to you.
In recent years I’ve been using strategies to travel with a little more comfort. More Airbnb, fewer hostels. Fewer Economy Class flights, more Premium Economy, Business Class or even First Class. In future posts I’ll introduce a few tricks I’ve learned to make traveling more comfortable.
About this site
It was a conversation with my sister, who has never been overseas, which led me to start this blog. I was taking her to Europe for the first time in April 2020 and she had so many questions such as “How do you access your money when you’re in another country?” The answer was obvious to me but it got me thinking about how I could assist others to embark on their own adventures. This website is as much about my travel adventures as it is about your future travels.
It is my mission, and the purpose of this site, to give people the tools and confidence to travel on their own Independent Adventures.
Independent Adventures
Being a part of a large tour group of 50 or more tourists playing follow the leader is not my idea of fun. Why hang out with the same busload of people for weeks at a time when meeting the locals is among the most rewarding experiences on the road?
On a tour you’ll certainly get to tick that box but you’ll also miss out on the essence of travel . Independent Adventures are easier than you think.
