Summary:
Qatar’s incredible Al Mourjan lounge needs to be seen to be believed. This giant lounge has everything you could possibly need all within its four walls.
The cavernous lounge is very different from the large, but intimate lounges that’s I enjoy elsewhere such as Cathay Pacific’s, “ The Pier”, in Hong Kong.
It’s easy to see why Hammad International Airport has overtaken Singapore’s Changi airport as the best airport in the world. Facilities are clean and modern is well organised
Finding this lounge was slightly tricky but if you look for the Harrods store you’ll seee an escalator behind that will take you up to the lounge. On our visit there were attendants checking your eligibility to enter at the bottom of the escalator.
I’ll let the photos do the talking when it comes to the available seating. Suffice to say, it was stylish, comfortable and widespread. Everyone will find a comfy place to sit.
A welcome feature of this lounge is a dedicated sleep /rest area near the south dining area. These comfortable sofa/beds will only be available to those with adequate lay over times and are often full. If you plan on using these facilities it’s best to book a spot as soon as you arrive in the lounge. .
Mid way along the west wall is an impressive business centre. It would be difficult to find a more comprehensive business center at any lounge in the world. The place is well set up for small meetings or even board meetings.
Just outside business center there were pods, each containging a chaise lounge with charging ports. This quiet area is a perfect spot to sleep for a few hours. Don’t forget to set an alarm as there are no boarding calls made in the lounge.
Placed at various intervals around the lounge are well stocked beverage counters, most adorned with luxurious white marble. Automatic coffee machines were on most of these and a wide variety of soft drinks juices and still/sparkling way was avelble. No alcohol though
At the southern end of the lounge is a large dining area with an bar for your usual alcoholic beverages. Extensive snack options were displayed on small plates at the marble counter beside the bar. These were all well presented.
A snack menu comprising mostly toasted sandwiches were all made to order.
Dominating the upstairs area toward the north of the lounge is massive restaurant which is accessed via an eye catching spiral staircase, which itself is beside a black marble water feature. In the middle of the staircase is an ott chandaleer.
Upstairs the restaurant features an al la carte menu, fantastic wines ( I had a wonderful French Mersault at 3am😆) plus the usual bar items. I’ve not reviewed better anywhere.
A long marble counter containing various snacks was on the southern end of the restaurant. All items are help yourself and all looked high quality. Check out the pics for more details
At another long marble counter there is a variety of hot dishes hidden under stainless food warmers. Though I didn’t indulge, they did look good.
My final comment on the food is the unbeatable variety of cakes/sweets at a black marble, inset bench on the east wall. Those with a sweet tooth will love this area.
As you’d expect, the showers and bathroom were amazing. A shower followed by a lay down in one of the many rest areas in the perfect way to unwind after a long flight.
The only frustration in this wonderful lounge is the lack of reliable WiFi. Airport WiFi, was slow and not really fit for purpose.
