As with most independent lounges, the Plaza Premium acts as a catchall for the premium customers for many airlines. On top of this PPL offers global memberships to access their network of lounges all around the world.
In my experience these independent lounges tend to be inferior to those tied to a particular airline. The thinking being that an airlines “brand” is represented by its lounge. This particular lounge was quite pleasant though.
2019 was a massive year of travel for me, and as my old iPhone died early that year, I decided to get a new phone. I’d decided against the new iPhone for two reasons, firstly the price, second was the fact that I knew I’d want to upgrade to a 5G phone when the technology finally rolled out.
Entering the lounge, the first thing you see on the left is a bar serving alcoholic beverages and barista style coffee. On the right is a series of small dining tables with mirrored chandelier style lights over the top.
Further ahead is a series of dark gray, single seater arm chairs in groups of 4, all were practical and comfortable. Along the left side running the entire length of the lounge is floor to ceiling windows with sweeping views across the tarmac and you can see the palm trees on the far side of the airport
Food beverage
Tucked up behind the lounge entrance is the meal service area. The selection is relatively modest thought there was a soup and four hot dishes available on my visit. I had the Hainan Chicken and Fried noodles and both were fine, without being great.
A somewhat megre selection of salads and the ingredients to make your own was on offer but I didn’t try any. Also in the area is a glass fronted fridge with the usual selection of soft drinks, water and juices. There was an automatic coffee machine too though you’re better off with the barista coffee at the bar
Speaking of the bar, as I had a morning flight, I did not drink alcohol so I couldn’t see their beer selection but the spirits on display was not extensive. The barista coffee was ok, nothing special, but better than you’d expect on your light
I had trouble with the Wi-Fi. My phone would connect just fine however my laptop would not connect despite restarting it. Speed was fairly slow. The free KLIA Wi-Fi worked ok though the speed was only 10.2Mbps
Bathrooms and showers were not visited on this occasion, though I’ll update the review when I return to the lounge early in the new year.
Overall, this was a comfortable stay and worthwhile if you can find a way in.
